Overview

AWANA

AWANA is COS's Tuesday night program for kids Kindergarten age through grade 4. In AWANA, each evening is highlighted by an exciting game time that fosters team spirit, cooperation and friendly competition. Bible studies and small group handbook time encourage kids to grow mentally, spiritually and emotionally.

As the kids are challenged by the principles of God’s Word and encouraged to apply them to their lives, as they sing songs and build lasting friendships, lives are changes. Awards wrap up the night’s fun.

WANAJAM

Tuesday night's program for 5th and 6th graders, WANAJAM is kicking off this year with a program built to uniquely challenge and grow our pre-teens. Each night will include crazy games, snacks, Bible studies and small groups. On a given week, WANAJAM gets involved in planning for and carrying out a service project.

Evening Schedule

Each night is broken down into three segments (but not necessarily in this order):

    • Handbook Time - Children work in small groups (boys and girls separate) with a leader to memorize Bible verses and do other fun handbook activities.
    • Interactive Bible Lesson - An AWANA leader gathers all the children together for an interesting and thought-provoking Bible lesson.
    • Game Time - Leaders and kids break up into four teams and head down to the COS Gym to play really fun games with balloons, bean bags, parachutes, and just about anything else they can get their hands on!

      Registration, Supplies & Uniforms

      Registration

The registration fee for AWANA is $15 per child. If your child is also participating in Kids Choir, there is a $15 fee for that, as well. You can register one of three ways:

        • Click here to download our registration form. Print and complete the form and submit it with your payment to the Children's Ministry Office.
        • Go to the Children's Ministry Office anytime and complete a paper registration form.

          Supplies

Each child is asked to purchase a handbook at the beginning of the year to work on in Handbook Time. Sparks is built around three handbooks that walk the children through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Those in the T&T and WANAJAM clubs focus on working through four handbooks that answer such questions as "Who Is God?", "Why Do We Have the Bible?", "Who Is Jesus?" and other foundational biblical truths and principles. Each newcomer starts on Book 1 for their age level.

Some children finish a handbook within a year, some do not. If a child completes his/her handbook before the end of the year, he/she purchases the next level. The goal is for each child to finish all  books for his/her age group, but this is not a requirement.

Handbooks cost $8-$9 each and can be purchased from the cashier on Tuesday club nights after 6:10 pm on the 2nd floor of Building C. Please bring cash or check.

          Uniforms

Children are encouraged to wear their AWANA uniform each week:

          • Sparks (K-2nd) wear a vest - Cost: $10
          • Truth & Training (3rd-4th) and  WANAJAM (5th-6th) wears a t-shirt - Cost: $13 (YM/YL) or $14 (AS/AM/AL)

You can order (and pay for) your child's uniform when registering using the paper form.  Circle his/her vest or t-shirt size and include payment for the uniform along with your registration fee(s).

You may also purchase your child's uniform from the cashier (cash/check only) on Tuesday club nights after 6:10 pm on the second floor of Building C.

          Special Events

          Sparks-a-rama

Children in K-Gr. 2 are invited to participate on a unique game team (boys and girls mixed) that encourages team spirit, low competition and a lot of FUN!  The team attends four or more set practices outside of club with the goal of learning six specific games. The team and coaches then travel to a designated site where they play other regional AWANA churches in hopes of winning top ribbons. The event usually takes place in March of the club year and is a highlight for all families and friends who attend.

          AWANAGames

Children in Gr. 3-6 look forward to joining unique game teams (boys / girls) that encourage team spirit, more competition and always much FUN! While the ten unique games are introduced and played at club, practices are set outside of the club night to help the team polish their skills. In March of the club year, the team and coaches head out to the designated site where they challenge other area AWANA churches and their teams for top honors. This Saturday game event is always a highlight for the children participating and their families / friends cheering them on.

          Bible Quizzing

Those children in Gr. 3-6, that enjoy learning and excel in their handbooks and memorizing of verses, anticipate the team fun and challenge of the February AWANA Bible Quiz event. Practices are held outside of the club night. The various teams of 2-3 children are coached in how to be prepared for the written test and multiple-choice paddle event that each must participate in. Portions of the handbooks are reviewed and learned with sights on being awarded top honors, individual ribbons and / or team awards.  Families and friends are encouraged to attend and support the event held at Church of the Open Door, in Ft. Washington, PA.

The Kids Choir meets every Tuesday from 4:30 - 5:30 pm to work on musicals that they perform for their parents, grandparents and friends in December and in May. The choir also has occasional opportunities to share their songs in neighboring communities. Children do not have to participate in Kids Choir to be a member of AWANA/WANAJAM (and vice versa).

Your $15 fee goes toward the cost of the CD and production costs. You can pay this fee when you register your child or you can pay the cashier on Tuesday nights after 6:10 pm on the second floor of Building C.

If your child wants to participate in Kids Choir and AWANA/WANAJAM, he/she can eat in between at Fun Time Cafe.

What is the choir currently working on?

They are currently working on a musical entitled, "Angels Aware!" It is a musical set in heaven, where the Archangel Michael calls a meeting for all of the angels at which he announces that Jesus will be sent to earth as a Baby!  It was created and written by Kathie Hill and Janet McMahon.

          Our Mission

At Church of the Saviour, we place a high value on children as Jesus did when he said, "Let the children come and do not forbid them." Our mission at Church of the Saviour is to welcome every child and give them an exciting opportunity to develop a faith relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church and to help them grow in their day by day life of faith.

          Our Purpose

We treasure each child that comes through our doors and into our hearts. It is our goal to partner with parents to provide quality Bible-based education in which the love of God is shared, as well as Godly life principles. Our desire is to create a fun, safe and nurturing environment where boys and girls want to come and bring their friends.
